The core of the role

Four things a Cloud Engineer is really hired to do.

A Cloud Engineer builds and runs the infrastructure everything else lives on, and makes it repeatable. These skills are grouped the way the work actually happens, from standing systems up to automating them, keeping them secure and reliable, and keeping the bill in check.

Build and run cloud systems

You take a set of requirements and turn them into working, well-chosen cloud infrastructure.

Automate the infrastructure

You define infrastructure as code and wire in CI/CD, so deployments are repeatable, not hand-built.

Keep it secure and reliable

You put guidelines and monitoring in place so systems stay safe and problems get caught early.

Optimize cost and scale

You right-size and scale so the platform grows with demand without the bill running away.

Straight answers

Cloud Engineer questions people usually ask.

What skills do you need to be a Cloud Engineer?

Four things carry the role: building well-chosen cloud infrastructure, automating it with infrastructure as code and CI/CD, keeping it secure and reliable, and controlling cost as it scales. Deep knowledge of at least one major cloud sits under all of it.

Which cloud should I learn, AWS, Azure, or GCP?

AWS appears in the most postings, but Azure and GCP are common too, and the concepts transfer. Learn one deeply, then read the specific ad, most roles name the cloud they use, and mirror that on your CV where it's true for you.

What's the difference between a Cloud Engineer and a DevOps Engineer?

They overlap a lot. A Cloud Engineer leans toward designing and running the cloud infrastructure; a DevOps Engineer leans toward the pipelines and practices that ship software onto it. Many roles combine both, so read the actual description.

How do I show Cloud Engineer skills on my CV?

Lead with the outcome, not the service list. “Used AWS” says little; “moved the platform to infrastructure as code and cut deploy time from hours to minutes” shows the skill working. That's exactly the kind of thing our scan helps you pull out of your own history.
